How to care for your flowers

These simple guidelines will help you prolong the life and enjoyment of your flowers. Your bouquet is hand-finished by our florists and can be placed straight into a vase. To unpack, simply lift the inner cardboard cone by the handles and remove it from the box. Your bouquet is secured into the cone with elastic bands. Release these, open the cone and remove your bouquet. Check inside the box for any other gift items that might have been sent to you. To keep your bouquet fresh it is transported in a water retentive bag that can be removed before placing your flowers into a vase.

Vase Preparation

Cut about 3cm off each stem at an angle of 45 degrees using a sharp knife. Always use a vase that has been cleaned with a mild detergent and thoroughly rinsed with fresh water. This removes any residue from a previous bouquet that could contain bacteria that can block the vessels that carry water up the stems and cause your flowers to wilt. Your flowers are supplied with a cut flower food containing food for the flowers and biocide to control the growth of bacteria in the vase water. Dissolve each sachet in 1 litre of lukewarm water. Fill your vase as required with this solution and arrange your stems.

Find the best location for your flowers

Your flowers will last longest if placed in a bright, cool location 18-22°C (65-72°F) but away from direct sunlight, drafts and radiators. Avoid placing flowers near ripening fruit that naturally releases small amounts of ethylene gas that will make flowers age faster. Check your vase at regular intervals and top up with fresh water as required. If the water looks cloudy or has developed an unpleasant smell, it should be changed following the vase preparation instructions detailed above

Balloons

1 The approximate maximum balloon 'float' times when filled with helium are as follows:

  • Latex balloons with HiFloat inserted - approximately 15 hours float time.
  • Latex balloons no HiFloat inserted - approximately 4 hours float time.
  • Mylar/Foil balloons - approximately 7 days float time.

2. To ensure maximum float times are achieved please do not store/display balloon near to a heat source. Balloons displayed in a higher temperature will have reduced floatation times.

3. Extreme cold can cause a balloon to deflate - please do not store in very cold conditions. They will inflate again when brought into the warmth.

4. Do not apply pressure/weight to any balloons. This may cause balloons to 'burst'.

5. Do not display/store balloons near to any sharp surfaces which may pierce the skin of the balloon causing it to 'burst'.

6. Balloons inflated with helium should be fixed with a weight to secure and prevent them floating away when in outside areas.

We hope that your balloon purchase helps you to enjoy your special occasion.
